I have an electric ezgo golf cart and I just replace all batteries with brand new batteries but the same things that was happening before with the old batteries is happening with the new. It seems as though something is running my batteries down fast. I don't have anything other the the batteries hooked up but it only last for about 30 minutes and sometimes not that long. It seems to charge up just fine, but before long it stops. Sometimes I can turn it off count to 10 and it zooms away just as nothing was wrong. Then sometimes it is DEAD DEAD DEAD. I don't have any lights hooked up or anything else that would be draining the batteries. Is there some sort of diagram as to how they should be hooked up? I took a picture of how the old batteries were and hooked it up exactly as they were before I removed the old batteries. My cables are new and clean so what else could it be?

Welcome to the forum...

We're going to need a little more info. What year is the cart? Is it a fleet, DCS or PDS system?
Does the cart just stop or does it gradually slow down and quit?

timindrums,

The PDS carts can be put in diagnostic mode and give codes for many problems. Try that and see if you get any codes and we'll go from there.

How can I tell what year my golf cart is? And as far as the buzzer mentioned The guy I bought the cart from had me cut the wires to the buzzer because it would not stop buzzing no matter what postion I had the cart in.

Something is not right on this cart. I would check the solenoid and all microswitches for proper operation.

For 2003 and older look in passenger side glove box, there a metal plate with a model number / mfg code, it will be a letter and 3 or 4 numbers, last two digits are the year it was made.

For 2003 and newer, lift the black plastic flap at rear of seats, and on cross memeber just above batteries is a sticker which will have the model number / mfg code, same thing, last two digits are year it was made.

In 2003 they changed where they put that information.

Where is shifter? Does it have a Run/Tow switch on controller cover under seat on passenger side.

Ok here is what I have found. There were two metal plates with numbers on them but only one I could read the numbers from since it is an older cart. I bought it used a few years back K199 1215506. So if I understand HotRodCars it would be a 1999 model.

It does not have run/tow. The letters are missing but I do remember it saying backward and forward and neutral.

Also you asked is it a fleet, DCS or PDS system? I don't know this

Does the cart just stop or does it gradually slow down and quit? I can tell it gets slower and slower and then dead. But it will be running fast and then just slows down. After I turned if off for a few seconds it was fast again. But now it is hard to get it back up and going again.

Also gornoman Posted on June 25, 2008 - 08:44 AM "Something is not right on this cart. I would check the solenoid and all microswitches for proper operation. " How do I check this? Is there some place that will tell me about the solenoid and the microswitches?

Try checking the individual battery voltage with a digital meter right after a full charge and then again when the cart slows down. Post your numbers and we'll go from there. You can check the battery voltage without unhooking any cables. Also double check all batteries are wired correctly and all connections are clean and tight.

one very important thing is did you break the batteries in right? also have them tested its possible you got a bad set or a bad battery and thats not uncommon.,......what brand of batteries did you buy?..................................

Here's what Trojan reccomends for Golf Cart battery break in...

New batteries should have about 25 "cycles" ( a charge and discharge) before they are used for extended run time. Maximum run time on new batteries should be 36 minutes.

I don't think that's causing your problem though. Have you checked the individual battery voltage when the cart slows down? Also check if any cables are hot when the cart slows down.

Ok I finally got a digital volt meter. I hope I had it on the right setting it seemed to be right because when I tested each battery it had readings on 5 of the 6 batteries of 5.80 vlots so since they are 6 volts I say that is pretty good. One of the batteries read about 5.63. I did a reading on all 6 and it was about 34.7. I am not a not on who knows a lot about these things but I just don't feel it is my battery. Since it was acting like this with my old trojan batteries I feel it is something else. I bought Excide GC 110 batteries from a golf cart place that is about 1 hour from me. And he said that the Excides GC 110 was the next best things to the trojans.

I asked my brother in law about the multiswitch and the solenoid and he said if it was like a regular car battery he could jump it to see if it worked. He said he just does not know anything about golf carts or 6 volt batteries. So right now I do not have the option of taking it somewhere so I am trying to fix it myself. That is why I am asking on this site. Is there some type of diagram where I can see how to find the solenoid? or Multiswitch? Or does someone have another suggestion?

Those voltages are way low. The batteries are dead for sure. If those numbers are after a charge either the charger isn't working or the batteries are bad. First check to make sure all cells are full. Then charge the cart a couple hours and take voltage readings while the cart is charging and post those.
