Harley Davidson Golf Cart Spits and Sputters

My 1980 Harley Davidson golf cart spits and sputters really bad when it is cold. It has hardly any acceleration at all, no matter if you give full throttle of just a little. The choke really doesnt seem to make much of a difference either. It just acts like it isn't getting any fuel, but i'm sure its not in the fuel system but maybe. Let me know if you have any ideas on what I can check.

Welcome to Cartaholics.

I'd start with a compression test in forward and reverse. These engines will wear faster in forward and lose compression sooner than reverse will. It's a pretty common problem on the 2-stoke carts with engines that run both clockwise and counter clockwise.

thank you, and what is the compression roughly. i just bought this machine and of course the guy said is was freshened up just a few hours before i bought it. it ran good for me for about 2 hours, maybe not the greatest but way better than now. maybe the rings didnt set. i'll check the compression as soon as I find out how many pounds its supposed to be. thanks again for the advise and the welcome.
