Graziano Transaxle Backlash

Hey guys, I purchased a remanufactured Graziano transaxle for my 97 48v. I would like to know if it is normal for it to have a bit of play when rotating the input spline shaft. I can rotate it fwd rev, before it actually rotates the axles, and has a bit of slop. It's like the backlash has a bit of a gap. The transaxle in my cart does the same thing and why I wanted to replace it. You can also notice it with the rear end up on jacks by rotating one of the wheels, and hear a bit of a clunk from the slop.

The clunk is in the old rear end or the new one? Some play is normal, as long as there isn't clunking when you hit the gas it's probably not enough to be worried about.

They both have about the same amount of play. I fixed the intermittent grinding while decelerating by installing a new centering ring on the motor. I also had another soft grinding noise which was a bent drum. Now I have a slight clunk if I take off fast due to the play in backlash. The other noise I cant figure out is a raspy sound when not under load. No noise during take off or full speed. I think it may be the motor. I replaced the bearing and brushes but couldn't get the commutator turned. I think it may be the brushes arcing or something. I thought it would have gone away while the brushes are getting seated but I've put many miles on it. So I'm going to return the refurbished one I bought. However, if the rasp is coming from the gears, I may just keep it and swap it out.
