My Mom bought a used golf cart in 2008 for my Dad -- after he started Dialysis. He passed away but my Mom uses this to get around in the yard, check the mail, visit my sister next door. Anyway, the batteries may need replacing. Do these have to be Golf Cart batteries or will a deep cyle battery or another kind work just as well? It is a used 2004 MODEL: TXTPDS and the batteries are TROJAN T-105 MILEAGE. Thank you for any and all advice. Clay and Lisa

Yes you need golf cart batteries. Make sure the batteries don't need water. Look on the negative battery terminals for a letter and number. The letter is the month and the number is the year (A9 would be January 2009). Trojan T105's usually last 6-7 years or more depending on how they were maintained.

Oh my -- was hoping not to have the huge expense for my Mom. My husband is going to check the batteries some time this week. If all are not bad, is it ok to change the ones that are bad? We haven't check the golf cart -- going by what my oldest sister is telling us. She said it runs but 'acts like it is on its last leg'. SHe is afraid to use it because it won't keep a charge. Husband can fix anything so, we will see. Just didn't know about the batteries. Thanks again!

Tell him to pull the caps first and make sure the plates are covered with water/acid. If the plates are exposed fill each cell with distilled water until the plates are covered then charge them until the charger shuts off. Also make sure all the cable connections are clean and tight. If the batteries are bad charging them will do no good.

HRc is correct you really should use good golfcart batteries.....BUT if money is that much of an issue you can use plain deep cycle just keep in mind that you,ll only get a few years out of them if your lucky and you maintain them and the runtime will be crap.................and if you figure it like this, with a good set of golfcart batteries they will last as long as possible 3 sets of deep cycles so what are you really gaining? nothing its a losing battle..............i say this ONLY if you really can,t afford cart batteries and its a must to drive the cart otherwise follow the advice and get golfcart batteries.........................trojens are supposed to be the best but there are cheaper golfcart batteries.................................

You can also go to your local battery dealer and find out if they have any BLEMS in golf cart batteries. These are batteries that have been on self 6 to 12 months without being sold. There is really nothing wrong with them other than not being fresh or brand new. Battery supply houses rotate stock from time to time. They remove their brand sticker and discount them. They also will not warranty the batteries but you can get them 50 to 60 % of retail. I get them when i can for my rental fleet and they work and last just fine.
