Gas/Elec Lift Kit Differences

A friend of mine had a '99 DS 48V elec that he just installed a 6" lift kit on...long story short, he wants to swap the lift kit onto an '02 DS gasser. Everything I've read states that gas & elect lift kits are different. Does anyone know why exactly? Thanks for any input!
