Gas conversion

I am new to golf carting. After building cars for years I thought i would give golf carts a try. I recieved an '81 CC electric cart that had a rough life free from the company I work for. They got tired of buying batteries every time they got stolen. I also got a 6.5hp gas engine free from a friend. Mounting the engine isnt a problem, I can fab up an engine cradle easy enough from scrap laying around. My problem is mounting a sprocket or pulley on the shaft on the electric motor shaft, and keeping the shaft in the rear end. I have seen others on this site do it, but they dont go into detail on how they did it, and the pictures dont show much on how it's done. I cant afford a gas rear at the moment, so I have to make do with what I have. Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated.
