g9 engine problem

Hey all..meebe- newbie to the forum...thx in advance...
I have a '91 yamaha golfcart from an auction,orig g2 eng blown-cracked block.
got a g9 and rebuilt it; rngs, brngs, ect.Problem is when i attempt to start it,it cranks over and stumbles, eventually runs but has limited power ,runs extremely hot,and if i stop the cart, it wont start again without playing with the choke knob, also uphill is nearly impossible again without messing with the choke knob...The carb is clean as are all of the filters, etc. I did the standard "1.5 turn" play but it wont keep a sustainable engine speed to adjust ..I'd really hate to ghost ride this thing off a pier... any suggestions????

Welcome to the forum...

Have you done a compression test? How's the valve lash? Is the air box sealed good everywhere?

yep, getting 168psi consistantly, air box is sealed, case vent {pvc thing} working correctly, steady spark, battery charged...New questions;the g2 i yanked out had a 3 wire coil config ie a ground wire, the g9 i put in had only 2 wires coming off the coil....so i used the g2 coil to avoid cutting wires... also, if it sits for awhile with the air filter tube off of the carb, i notice fuel collects at the bottom of the carb inlet.. its wet. I checked the float needle and it seems to be working [stopping flow] however i don't know if this is normal...Oh also yes the valves were set at .004 And its a new intake valve...[yes i lapped it] thanks for any more help...that piers getting to look better each day....

nope, spark plug is brand new..this seems like its a timing issue. going to look into the igniter unit/pickup coil/flywheel/ matchup...will keep posting..
