G14 engine swap

I just swapped out a G14 engine that had a broken balance counter weight that went through the engine case with an older G2 engine that I had on hand. I changed over the electrical pulse pickup under the fly wheel and changed the coil, all other electrical connector plugged in well. Now when I go to start the engine I have no spark at the plug, I am getting 12 volts at the orange wire at the coil, also the engine will continue to turn over after the accelerator peddle is released and will continue turning after the ignition switch off for 5 to 15 seconds before it stops turning. What have I done wrong, or is the ignitor box gone bad? Thanks for the reply.

What you should have done is to totally rfeplace the G14 with a G2. No other parts removed.

like tinkering with the pulsar coil.

On the engine "continuing"to turn over, it is very likely a solenoid problem. It gets stucked even if the key has been turned off. To test that, tap the solenoid with a screwdriver head. That should release the sticking plunger inside.

I will try the hitting the solenoid to see if that works. Thanks. The reason I changed the pickup and coil was to match the electric plugs in the wiring harness of the G14 cart which is different from the G2. I take it that you have no idea on why there is no spark at the plug? Anyone else have an opinion? Thanks

No spark at the plug can be one of several reasons:

1. Broken connection between ignition coil and ignitor
2. Faulty ignitor
3. Faulty pulsar coil
4. Faulty ignition coil.
5. Poor ground. The pulsar has 3 wires. Two of them go to the ignitor. A third one is ground.

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I finally got to work on the cart again. Checked things over and looked at all the ideas that you gave me. First I got the engine to stop turning over, stuck starter soleniod. Next I checked all the wires again and found nothing. I went back and removed the fly wheel from the G14 engine and installed it on the new engine. Well do I have spark now. It runs fine. The fly wheel is different from the G14 to the G9, when you look real close. Sorry that I stated that the new engine was a G2 when it was actually a G9 engine. Thanks again.
