I just got a 1991 G-9 gas Yamaha and got it running but as long as the air filter is on i need to pull the choke to keep up power it starts fine now but when running i need to pull choke, it seems to have plenty of power. I have cleaned the plug, air filter, carb and tightened the carb mounting bolts. i havent set the air mixter screw as i have two threads with different adjustments, one is out 1.25 turns and the other is out 2.5 tirns. any suggestions as this is my first cart?

Welcome to Cartaholics.

Did you take the carb apart and clean it? A new spark plug may help. Sometimes cleaning the plug doesn't work. Make sure the spacer between the carburetor and head isn't cracked. Check that the lid and connections on the air filter box are sealed good. I'd adjust the valves while your at it.

Just getting into the fix, I cleaned the jets, there is a rubber air filter top holder missing and the lid is lose on one side, will this cause the problem, as i said it runs fine with out the filter and lid? I found a site with a factory users manual and am looking for a service manual then will get into more depth. Thanks

Yes the loose lid will cause problems. Yamaha golf carts are very fussy about the air cleaner box being sealed tight.

I cleaned te carb, and tightened the mounts one nut lose, i used a air conditioning tie to tighten the lid for a temp fix, it now starts and runs great, it still has a hesitation, but this i will overcome. it is lifted 4" and a work in progress. The governor does not appear to have been adjusted. i will post pics later. Thanks Bobby
