Fuel Blowing Out Carburetor

When the motor cranks fuel and exhaust blow forward out of the carburetor into the air filter. Any idea where to start looking?

No, not yet. Just bought the engine last night. It looks like it sat in a field for a while. I will adjust the valves tonight. Thanks.

Unfortunately, adjusting the valves to. 006 didn't do the trick. Is there anything else that may contribute to this?

Throttle is wide open. Also noticed a couple other things. I crank it and feel alot of air around the cam. Not sure if that's normal? Also, no oil pumps into the top around the lifters. I looked at the cam timing gear but I'm not sure what to look for. Nubs, I really appreciate your help!

check the cam timing, sometimes the keyway for the bottom sprocket breaks out or gets loose on the 350's.

I will do that tonight, thanks for the advice! Is 60 psi about right or do I have a problem there? Also, what about the no oil being pumped into the head?

those engines won't run right with less 120lbs, 175 is normal compression so theres a problem some where. either the rings are bad, the timing is off or the valves are bad. is the oil fresh? if it had any water sittin' in the bottom and it sucked into the oil pump it could have lost prime. i would squirt some oil in the cylinders and check the compression again, if it gets better you know the rings are shot and you'll need to rebuild it.

Since golf carts don't idle the butterfly closes completely so the cylinders can't get any air, if you just push the pedal enough to engage the starter your compression can be off 40 or 50 lbs

good to hear, did you try adding oil to the low cyl to see if it changed? may just be a bad valve.

I continued to tweak with the timing & valves this weekend. Got compression up to 150 each. Good enough for me. I couldn't have done it with help from this site! Next will be to stretch it in a couple of weeks.
