After rebuilding practically every thing on the engine. carp, new reed valve etc it suddenly dawned on me to check the compression Duh! Only 65. So I ordered a new top end kit from Vintage golf carts and walla it was the problem. It is truly amazing this engine even ran. It had a huge burned out section of the piston with a burned out to the third ring. Both the 2 upper rings were completely gone.
After assembly it runs like a top with a lot more power and zero hesitation in forward. Goes a lot faster too. As many engines as I have worked you would have thought compression would have been the first thing I would have checked
