EZGO Won’t Run with New Carburetor

I have an 2007 TXT ST Sport II Workhorse. I have the Fuji Robin engine 350cc MCI (not pre-MCI) and they have gone out of business. I can no longer get the original OEM carburetor because they discontinued it and no one has one. I tried the aftermarket carburetor #13350 from Buggies Unlimited but it still does the same thing. I found that the original carburetor had a 90 jet and the aftermarket one doesn’t.

I have cleaned and replaced everything that might be related to issue with no luck.

I have read other threads where people are experiencing the same thing but there doesn’t seem to be a solution.

I’m thinking I may need to just install a whole new engine.

Anyone have a solution to this issue?

What is the issue? Does the choke make it run any differently? Yamaha bought Subaru/Robin a few years back and decided to try to screw owners of EZGO and Club Car carts equipped with those engines by discontinuing the parts entirely or raising the prices for the parts to such obscene levels that you can buy an entire golf cart for what they are charging for certain parts. Absolutely ridiculous IMO, if they want people to buy their golf carts maybe focus on trying to improve them and expanding their spotty dealer network rather than buying out their competitors to keep people from fixing their existing equipment. The 2 cylinder version in the EZGO is the most unreliable golf cart engine of all and due to the lack of parts support you may well be better of just tossing it and swapping in something else. Most of the replacement parts are coming from China now and often don’t work at all no matter how many times you return them for a replacement. The last robin cart I had I just ripped out the entire driveline and took all the parts from a rusted out but still running electric cart and swapped them in, that was cheaper than the potential repair bill for the gas engine plus who knows if whatever problems I found could even be rectified due to no parts. I really don’t see many EZGO robins anymore most of them have probably blown up by now.

I am familiar with carburetors and I’ve taken the original one apart and cleaned it out it put it back together. I also tried an aftermarket carburetor and the golf cart did the same thing. Runs great at first then it gets hot and runs like crap and then gas ends up being in the carb.

So far you haven't described any conditions that definitively indicate a bad carb. If the motor won't run with either carb the problem is probably not the carb at all. Gas in the carb is a good thing; it won't run without it. Have you checked ignition spark or compression? At 17 years old the motor could have low compression or a myriad of other issues.

I have found if you choke one of these MCI engines you stand the chance of gas fouling the spark plugs. Check your spark plugs. I also run a 295 MCI carburetor on my EH350 and it runs great. County Cat has those in stock. $150.

The main jet is the only difference in the 350 and 295 carburetor but like I mentioned mine runs perfect with a 295 carburetor. You can always change out your 90 jet from original carburetor if it don't run like you want.

I agree with Notsoslim. Check the compression and spark.

Number one rule when working on these older ezgo carts. Don't go on amazon and ebay and start part swapping. Find the problem first.

What do you mean by "and then gas ends up being in the carb" engine flooded?
@kb36 you need to answer this question, is the engine flooding or not? It is a common problem with the aftermarket carburetors they will flood the engine with gas. If the original is doing so too I would be taking a good look at the fuel lines and filters to make sure they aren’t shedding junk that is clogging the float needle. You need to be clear about what your problem is, based on the varying responses above you’ve obviously not done so.

Let me clarify…the carb squirts gas. The gas is getting into the engine. I’ve checked the ignition spark/compression and it’s ok. I’ve checked the spark plugs and they are ok. The carburetors that I bought were not bought from Amazon or EBay. I’ve checked the fuel lines and filters and they are ok. Although the valve lash compression is good, it does sound like the intake valve works it way up into the valve seat and when it gets hot it’s not sealing as Zman suggested. Not sure what to do. Thank you for everyone’s suggestions.

Runs great at first…when it gets hot is where the problems arise. I’ve only checked the compression when it’s cold.
May have nothing to do with it but if it were me I would check for high resistance in the ignition coil. Get the DVOM and test the primary and secondary on it. Check or replace the spark plugs also with NGK. Just a thought being you said problems start when engine gets hot.
