EZGO TXT PDS Throwing a 2-3 Trouble Code

I have a 2007 pds with a lift and bigger tires. I recently started getting the 2.3 code and it reads something about check the torque on something and to let the controller cool down. Not sure exactly what its telling me to check. A local dealer told me that if i have it lifted that i am going to eventually burn it up and have to upgrade to a new controller that is made for more torgue and larger tires. Is my controller going bad or do i need to make some adjustments. It seems to only sound the code during slow drives, not during a pedal down run. I am pulling a trailer for a hayride for holloween next month and i cant ride it at full or even half throttle without possibly hurting a child. I was told it had a speed chip in it when i bought it,

but i havent opened the controller to confirm yet, i know its about 17 mph on the street, but havent hit it with a gps yet. Is this new controller the dealer talked about worth the 425.00 their asking or is there another way to fix this with a simple torgue wrench. I am pretty mechanically skilled, but electronics are not my high point. Any ideas, thoughts or past experience with this would be great.

At that speed, you have the speed chip. These carts tend to heat up the controller at slow speeds. You have large tires and a lift kit which already stresses the controller to the max. Add slow speeds and it will overheat and give you the problem you're having now.
For your hayride, either remove the chip or talk to your dealer and see if he can program it back to stock or even lower.
To remove the chip turn the key off, put the cart in tow mode, disconnect battery bank, take the cover off the controller and remove the plug-in chip. Close the controller cover and place back into run mode and you should be back to stock.
Do the same thing to reinsert the chip when you're done with the hayride.
HotRodCarts should be along shortly to add some real knowledge to this.

A 2-3 code is the controller going into thermal shut down. Changing the "chip" will only change the amount of regen braking and won't help with the over heating problem. Like dougmcp said the slow speeds are going to bring this on sooner. Pretty much what the dealer told you is correct. A 400 amp Alltrax controller would work well with your stock motor and is what I would recommend unless you plan on a motor upgrade also. Does the cart still have the stock 6 guage cables? If so upgrading to 4 guage will help some with the stock controller over heating but if you need to use the cart at slow speeds for extended runs you'll need to upgrade the controller. This is a pretty common problem on lifted PDS carts.

Thanks for the help. I think i am going to run this controller until it starts beeping more frequently before i Drop the 350 plus on a new controller. I saw a black wire chip that says it increases torgue, would this be a viable option to replacing the speed chip and stopping the over heating? Just a thought. I know I will get a new controller soon, but probably going to wait until the new year.

The different chips/plugs change the amount of regen braking and at what speed the regen braking kicks in so it really wouldn't help with the heat problem. Make sure the controller is bolted tight to the heat sink. I've seen guys use a small 12 volt fan to blow on the controller to help with the problem.

Thanks, i will check, is the fan blowing inside the actual casing the controller is in or is blowing on the casing itself. I have thought abou this option. I still have not opened the case to check the controller but will make sure to get it done tonight. thanks.

The fan would work better if it was blowing directly on the controller and heat sink. You can also remove the black plastic cover that covers the solenoid and controller and leave it off. As long as you don't spray it off with a water hose it will be fine and allow it to run a little cooler.
