EZGO starter/generater

I just replaced my starter/generator and it spins my engine backwards. No amount of swapping wires around changes it.

is the top of the starter belt turning to the front of the cart? or to the back of the cart?

I got it fixed, it was spinning the belt backwards because the replacement starter the parts company sent me was a 2 stroke which spins backward to run a 2 stroke in reverse and the wiring for a 4 stroke made it think it was in reverse. I put a 4 stoke starter in it and now it starts and runs fine.
