EZGO Rear End Noise

Hell all !
I have a 1994 EZGO and I just bought a 1996 EZGO. The 96 that I just bought has a whining noise in the rear end. I took the motor out of my 94 ( it is a speed motor 21 mph) and put it on the 96 to see if the noise was the motor. It still makes the noise. So I took out the gears out of the 96 to see if I had a bad bearing. I see no bad bearings in the " spider gears"( Sorry if I am using the wrong terms , I am an old hot rodder , but now I love these carts !... anyway ) I can not figure out how to pull out the "Input gear "? to see if it is those bearings. I have looked all over these forms until my eyes hurt! can some one help me on this ??

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum.

With the motor out you will see a snap ring on the outer bearing of the input shaft. Remove the snap ring and the input shaft will slide out.

Thanks, it worked, ok now , I called an EZGO dealer and they said that I have to replace the entire thing as a unit, gear bearing ect, is that true? can I just replace the bearings ?

Thanks !

I am at a loss. I Still have a whine in the cart. I have replaced all of the bearings in the rear end of my cart and I changed the input gear assembly, the freaking thing still has a whine, I also put a different motor in it to make sure it was not the motor ! any suggestions out there ? I thought maybe the gears were not meshing together , but I see no way to shim them or anything like that !! I am at a total loss.

I've had this happen when replacing the input shaft because the wear pattern will be different with the new gear on the input and the old ring gear that's already worn. There's no shims on the input bearings so you really can't make any adjustments. It may get a little quieter after you use the cart some.

I did find the problem. It was the gear between the Input gear and the ring gear. The bearings had worn out and over the years , that middle gear must have been moving around. It wore the gears uneven and that is what is causing the wine. I priced a new set of gears, and they were $300 to $500, .... so I put in thick oil, and that has helped. I think I am just going to sell the cart.

A couple years ago, I replaced the bearings on my input shaft..I took it to a local bearing shop and they removed the old bearings and pressed on two new ones...$18 total...
