EZGO Marathon Electric Golf Cart Slow Up Hills

Hi All,
I have a 93 stock EZGO Marathon electric golf cart. It is a dog up hills, a really old dog and really slow. I've been told to upgrade to a 500A controller and move to 48v. I am pretty pleased with the speed of the cart on flat ground. So is that upgrade necessary to maintain that speed uphill. It's a campground cart, moderately hilly. Thanks

A higher amp controller alone will help a little with torque. Upgrade to 48 volts and it will pick up more torque. Even at 48 volts the golf cart will slow down when going uphill. You could also go with a torque motor but you'll lose some top speed.

Whats the better option, a new motor or a new controller to help with uphill speeds? Both is ideal, but if you had to choose?

If it was my cart I'd upgrade to 48 volts with a Alltrax controller and use the stock 36 volt motor. If you go with a controller upgrade only you won't notice much of a difference. If you go with a torque motor only you'll lose some top speed. Also make sure your batteries are good. One weak battery will cause the golf cart to run slow up hills.

Batteries are 6+ yeasr old and noticeably swollen. I'm just trying to get the most bang for my buck. I was surprised how many conflicting opinion there are on forums. It seems like the Alltrax is recommended by most though.
