EZGO Jerky When Taking Off From Stop

hello all -
My farm cart is a workhorse, an early 90's electric EZGO with three 12 volt Evermax DC 29 deep cycle batteries- bought it 6 mos ago. It's jerky when taking off from a stop.
i charge it regularly and turn off the switch when not in use but lately it's been running slower> batteries are 5 yrs old.
i disconnected each battery and individually charged them but no improvement. they test 11.7 - 9.7-11.7 just sitting there.

mornings it will barely move, it will go in reverse, but choppy. Then forward kicks in, but choppy.
after 25 ft + it evens out to a manageable speed. i can cruise around the pastures OK just not with speed.
replace batteries first? motor, controller and solenoid look original. cables tight. thanks for any info.

With that battery voltage the cart isn't going to run good at all. I'd say it's time for new batteries. I would normally recommend not using three 12 volt batteries and use six 6 volt golf cart batteries.
If you got 5 years out of three 12 volt batteries you did good. If you do use 12 volt batteries make sure they're deep cycle.

alrighty, i easily replaced the three deep cycle batteries with brand new ones. turned the key and nothing! i rechecked the wiring, (had made a diagram before i took out the old batts )- cleaned all corrosion off terminals but no luck. triple checked everything. There doesn't seem to be a re set switch or button and i see no ground wire to the cart's frame.
So i have 3 new fully charged deep cycle batteries and no way to go. Previously the motor, ignition, all worked. anyone ever put in brand new batteries and - nothing happened?
this farm cart has no horn, lights or anything extra.

What year and model is your cart? If you're not sure of the year post the manufactures code on the tag inside the passenger glove compartment.

Thanks for the interest.
serial # 626757 and manufac. code D1891
3 brand new Excide deep cycle DC 27 batteries, all checked at 12v. The old batteries were same brand, but DC29s.

The only time I've seen new batteries make a cart stop running if they're wired wrong, not fully charged or bad.
Your cart is a 1991 just so you know in the future if you need to order parts.

Guess I wired it wrong will take them out and start again after the weekend --- seemed too easy! and thanks i guessed the 91 meant it was an old timer.

A 1991 EZGO would be a Marathon model. They're good old golf carts. The first thing I would check is to make sure you have full battery pack voltage at the charger receptacle on the cart.
There's also a wiring diagram for your Marathon in the EZGO resource section of the forum.
Let us know if it runs after you re-check the battery cable wiring.

Got it going! Turned out the third battery needed to be wired backwards. altho i went exactly by how the old batteries were wired, the last battery needed to have the positive cable on the negative post and the negative cable on the positive post. to see it , it looks wrong but cart works now. something called series vs. parallel wiring. i had the local mobile cart guy out here and he spotted the problem right away. so all good now, thanks.

It sounds like that battery has been charged with reverse polarity. You can check to see if that the case with a multi meter.
