EZ-Go, Stop and Go

My 36 volt 2002 or so cart has brand new batteries. We added a lift kit and bigger tires for use around our farm. After driving the cart for 15 minutes or so it begins to just stop completely. If you wait a minute or so it will go full speed again, but in just a few minutes the same thing happens again. I'm new to carts and have no idea what to check first.

Welcome to the forum...

Is the forward and reverse switch on the dash? If it is you have a PDS cart and the controller is probably going into thermal shut down. What size tires does the cart have? You should upgrade all your cables to 4 guage and a HD solenoid...

Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took a few days for me to respond, I have been away from home working. The cart is definitely a PDS. The tire size is 22 X 11 - 10. Any suggestions on a HD Solenoid? Thanks again.

Your motor is running too hot. You need to increase the size of your wiring. The wires between the batteries, the battery and the controller and the controller and the motor. Read the various posts and it will start to make sense

More than likely it's the controller going into thermal shutdown. It's very common on PDS carts with big tires. The larger cables and HD solenoid will help. I'd go with a White Rodgers 586 solenoid and 4 guage welding cable on ALL the stock 6 guage cables. If you still have the problem it's time for a controller upgrade so you'll need the bigger cables one way or another. Try putting the cart in diagnostic mode and see if you get any codes. There's instructions for diagnostic mode in the EZGO Resource Forum here.
