erratic engine speed

Anyone got an idea why my cart doesn't want to go at mid throttle? starts right up, runs nice but can't get it to go along at half pedal, sort of chugs, or speeds up and down -push the pedal down more and all is well/ runs great otherwise, although maybe the mixture's a bit rich. any help would be great

I would check the base gasket. Spray some carb cleaner around the base gasket while running it. If it picks up RPM's, then the gasket needs to be replaced. I would also do a compression check just to make sure.
