Engine just idles

I took out my 97 gas powered Club Car out last night and after going over some rocks the cart would'nt move. When I push down on the pedal the engine starts but does'nt seem to have enough power to move the cart.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try.

If the starter is just turning with no rpm increase, check the thottle cable.

The throttle cable seems to be fine. I followed it back to top of the engine and pushed on the gas pedal, the starter kicked on and the cable and spring worked fine but cart still would'nt move. any other suggestions?
