Electrical issue

Hello all,

Im not sure Im in the right thread here so please redirect me if needed.

I recently purchased a custom cart from a dealer in my home town. It was built on an EZ-GO platform but i think they pretty much gutted it. The receipt says its a 2005 PDS. Ive been able to find out that i have an Advanced D.C. Motors Inc. 36 Volt motor and 2005 Trojan T-605 batteries. It also has a speed chip but Im unsure of the manufacturer. I am new to carting so please bear with me. If anymore info is needed to diagnose my problem please let me know what and how to/where to obtain it. So here goes....

I have recently noticed quite a reduction in run time and general battery power since the purchase of my cart (May 09). When i hit the accelerator my battery gauge(analog) dips all the way to the "E" side, my radio cuts out, and then regains its power. This is on a full night charge. It used to not make it 1/4 of the way down from "F". My acceleration has been severely hindered but it seems to make it up to top speed if i give it some time. I thought i may be low on water so i checked the levels. The front 3 were fine while the back 3 need a little. I added distilled water to the batteries and charged them overnight. This did not solve the problem. I have tried disconnecting all loads from the batteries (CD player, speakers, etc.) with the same results. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Check your battery connections for corrosion. Clean and tight is your friend.
If that is not the problem, your batteries may be on the way out.
After a full charge and rest at least an hour after charging, get a digital voltmeter and measure the total pack voltage and then each individual battery voltage. 1 weak battery can cause your problem of short run time.
A fully charged cart should be 38.2v or more.
Post up your results and we can give you some ideas.

Here is a State of Charge chart to compare your readings:
