Electric to gas conversion?

Does anyone know if and how to convert an electric cart to gas powered? If so, what parts other than engine, and mounting brackets will be needed?

Welcome to Cartaholics S.W. and thanks for asking this question. I'm thinking of trying the same project with a slight twist. Here is the twist...

It's a 2006 Harley-Davidson FLSTCI Heritage Softail Classic. 88 cubic inch (1442.15 cc ) If all goes right I should be able to get the motor dirt cheap. My cousin is going to go check it out, he wants the frame, seat, etc. for his '47 Knuckle.

Thanks for the welcome! Hope your project goes well also! With any luck I'll be using an engine from a bike as well. I don't have the cart yet because I wanted to see if it could be done before I spent the money and time with no gain!

You would be further ahead in both time and money to get a gas cart. Even if you plan to swap out the motor, you will at least have the correct rear axle to work with. An electric cart motor reverses while a gas cart does not so it requires a different rear axle setup.

IMO I'd fix the Harley and sell it.
You should then have enough money to buy the parts you need for the gas cart and the '47 Knuckle and a few cases of your brew of choice.

My cousin e-mailed me the pic and asked me "You want this Evo P.O.S. motor?" He doesn't like the newer style motor. The bike is at a salvage auction near him. I know nothing about salvage titles. If he can get it for less than a stock Heritage soft tail frame, he said he would sell me the motor cheap. I doubt he'll go through with it, but a 1500cc golf cart sounds like fun. With my ankle in the shape that it is, a golf cart would get more use from me than a bike. I wonder what NGKRA class it would be in?

It would depend on the #'s it ran. Looks like it would be a trick build and it would sound freakin' awesome.

Thanks for the advice! I looked at the cart, and found that if I was to just keep it electric, it would take just as much work! The guy that owns it has put some hack-job lift kit on it, and completely screwed with the frame and suspenion. It needs all the batts replaced, and new wiring as well. I figure I'll just wait and get a gas cart when I can!
