E-Z-GO Muffler Clogged

I just picked up a 1988 gas E-Z-GO golf cart for free and it runs. The muffler is original and is about 3/4 clogged. I have messed around with 2 stroke ATV's in the past with expansion chamber exhaust. What do you guys think about adapting a 250cc size ATV exhaust to my cart. Any draw backs? Or should I just go back original?

You could always do a muffler BBQ. I know your probably thinking WTH is he talking about lmao. :D

Basically you build a nice size fire and carefully lay the exhaust in the fire and let it burn until the fire goes out and the muffler has cooled down.

The first time I heard of this I laughed but it works...

i agree, i built a fire last weekend and cooked the muffler for a 65 Harley golf cart! let her cool and two or three taps on the floor and dump out any crap and it runs like new.

it's Worth the time.

That is a really good idea. The more I thought about adapting a tuned exhust, the more I realized that it is just what it is. I would guess that the pipes for ATV's are tuned to a much higher RPM than what the E-Z-GO runs. But, it would be interesting to design that type of pipe for these golf carts. I think there would be great performance benifits. I think I will do some resherch and see what I can find out.

Exactly how do you do a muffler barbeque? Build a fire and lay the muffler in the hot coals. Heard about it but never having owned a gasser i would like to know just for info. :dazed:

Muffler BBQ:

Build a fire and put the muffler right in the fire. Let it burn until the fire goes out. Don't move the muffler while it's in the fire and let it cool down before tapping all the junk out of it.

It works. When HRC mentioned this a while back I did it to both of my ezgo 2 strokers and it made a world of difference.
