I have a E-Z-GO ST cart that is about three years old and is a 36 volts. Why would the motor get really hot and smell like it is burning? Way to hot to touch. this just started to do this the last 2 time it was driven. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
Does the cart seem to be running normal?
For starters I'd check the 4 connections at the motor to be sure they're clean and tight. You may want to spray them with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight before checking. Make sure you hold the jam nut that's against the motor with a separate wrench to keep the stud from turning.

Thanks for the reply. the cart seems to run alright but I have noticed that going up a hill or incline I would be able to walk up the hill faster than the cart. our 48v shuttle almost keeps the same speed going up the hill.. I will check the connections..thanks

checked the connections and one was not real tight. I then took it for a ride and noticed a electric smell. It seems it is coming from the forward/rev switch. This is probably the reason the motor was so hot.. thanks

After you tighten the loose connection(s) at the forward and reverse switch check to make sure the switch is not still getting hot. The board and the copper contacts could be bad from the heat.
