driven clutch removal

I need to change the driven clutch spring on my G16. I have a puller. Are ther any special things I need to do to safely remove it--keep it from flying apart, decapitating me, etc? It has a power spring now & I want to put the stock back on because I put a Honda V-twin in and don't need the spring for torque. I want the clutch to engage at a lower rpm. I didn't install the spring, so I have never removed the driven clutch, so any info will be appreciated. Thanks.
