DC to DC Converter or 12 volt battery or both?

For my car would it be better to use a DC to DC converter like this one or a 12 volt battery to run the lights and accessories?

The 12 volt battery is doing its job right now and I rarely have to charge it but it would be nice to save some weight up front. I'm only concerned about the DC to DC converter draining my mileage when the lights, heater, wipers and radio are on.

Ace, you are now crossing the threshold of understanding the inadequicies of the total electric vehicle. Without a power cell it ain't gonna happen to your liking. Lights are a large draw, and a heater? Fuggetaboudit.

BTW, your heater won't work AT ALL without the heat provided by the antifreeze from the intenal combustion engine you removed....

Ace, a 1500 watt heater core is the same as a hair dryer. It won't heat the car worth a darn. Of course, my winters are different from yours, so.......
