D and D Golf Cart Motors

In the past I have built a 36 volt series golf cart with a 6.1 hp motor and a 700 amp controller 30 to 35 mph. This year I found a guy with some ''cash'' and wanted to push a cart to its limit. I called Mike at D and D motors and asked for the fastest stuff they offer. We went with the d and d motor and controller. ''new'' speed gear, traction control, 48 volt, trojan batteries, 1ga wires and a set of Jake's disc brakes that are not worth a damn! The cart runs around 45 mph and was beat down by a half ass 72 volt. That a guy built in his back yard. ''disappointed'' with what I ended up with. Just watched Orange County Choppers and Shawn Lawless do it the right way. I try'd to contact Shawn but was unable too. Is there anyone out there that can help me make that kind of hp? Forget the money! The question is simply can anyone give me the name and number to the people who are taking electric vehicles to another level. SHAWN I NEED YOUR HELP! The future is going to be all about going green. Why are, We letting OCC have all the air time. I know That the smartest people in E.V. are on this site. Forget about the suppliers who just want to sell you parts. Let talk about getting the part THE CONTROLLERS AND MOTORS and ideas to getting something to fly when We want and cruise when we need it too. It's not every day you have a guy walk in and say i want and i don't care what it cost. Well it happened to me and D and D, Jake's you people let me down! I praise you and now I look the fool.

It's kind of hard to compare a 48 volt cart to a 72 volt cart. When you were originally building the 48 volt cart you asked about going fast on 48 volts. 45 MPH on 48 volts isn't to shabby if you ask me. If you want to be as fast or faster than the 72 volt cart you probably should have went 72 volts or more from the get go. :twocents:

your doing great at those speeds on 48 volts.... i have a 72 volt drag cart with stock gears and 18" tall tires and running 49mph...

voltage is horse power

also remember the drag bike is running on chain and sprockets alot different that a cart rear end... it also had over 300hp

i have both, i have a 36 volt series cart with a 6.1 motor and 700 amp controller 30 to 35 mph 10'' wheels and stock rear end with drum brakes rear seat, roof, windshield, every extra they'll sell to make it look good. 1ga wires and to boot energizer 6 volt batteries. from sam's club. the other cart is a pds cart with 650 amp I don't know what they sent me for a motor? UNMAKED 1ga wire 6:1 height speed gears, traction control, 8 volt trojan batteries,1ga wires, jakes disc brakes 12'' rim no back seat or any extra junk. just batteries wires, controller, motor wheels and a steering wheel. race ready built for only one thing going fast and it failed. Not impressed. if you use 6 12 volt batteries with a 650amp programable controller with a 6.1 36 volt motor will it run and run fast. i don't care if it last. either did he, he kicked our asses and drove it back into the trailer for another day.

I'm not sure if you'll find a PDS motor that will handle 72 volts. In my opinion if you're going to build a 72 volt cart a series setup would be best.

You will gain much more speed by increasing the voltage. I built a 96/120 volt Honda Civic EV a couple years ago. It would run approx 65 mph and would leave a 100ft burnout on pavement. That bike on American Chopper has A123 Lithium batteries - the battery pack is 360 volts!!
