Converting Electric Golf Cart to Gas

I have been working on converting a electric EZGO golf cart to gas recently. It was a 1995 EZGO electric cart. I bought a new engine for it, rear end and other gas parts. The clutch came today so I am going to put it in and hopefully take it for a test drive today.

Nice job on the frame. If the rest of the cart is as clean as the frame its going to look nice when its finished. Keep us posted on the details..

Thanks. I thought the engine was going to be just like a 24hp honda minus one cylinder. Well it is but to fit the gas tank on top of the engine they had to tilt the cylinder back so it hits the diff. I'm working on adapter blocks for it to raise it up some.

Sorry I haven't done to good keeping this thread updated. With it being golf season I haven't had time to do a whole lot to the cart anyways besides getting the engine in and running. The engine was a new 390cc Honda I bought for $190. The engine worked very well in there except for some minor details that turned into major problems. There wasn't near enough room to keep the exhaust and air box from hitting the cross member where the back of the seat frame attaches. Another problem is the engine was in the way of the F/R cables on the diff. resulting in that not working.

I was able to sell that engine on eBay and get my money back. And here I am now. I was thinking about either dropping in a 23hp Briggs and just getting this cart finished with or put the snowmobile engine I have back in.

The reason I decided to not use the snowmobile engine in this cart before was for 1 its going to be a really sweet engine and I wanted to save it for my workhorse. Another reason is I am building this cart to sell and there is a good possibility this engine might smoke some considering its a 2 stroke. Also its going to be very loud and absolutely fly!! All those not such good things when selling.

Today I set the snowmobile engine back in the cart and started thinking...It does look pretty good in there. If I can get it running good and trick the cart out this just might turn out to be an awesome golf cart.
