What would it take to covert the engine in my 1985 Club Car golf cart to a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard or a 27 HP Kawasaki V-Twin? Tell me what to expect or what would be the best options for a new engine? The golf cart had a 341 cc in it. What am I looking at and can I use my old clutch? Thanks for any help.

Your looking at a couple grand+ to get a modified 23hp Vanny in there. I don't know much about the Kawi's. Also, you will need a lift kit. You might be able to machine the bore of your clutch to fit the Vanny, otherwise it won't fit, you will need different clutch.

Well I got a liquid cooled 27 HP Kawasaki V-Twin engine today I will have fabricate almost every thing and I will still need a clutch.

I've got a Comet clutch that needed a 1" straight bore. It has an insert secured with an allen set screw and is removable I think to reconfigure the clutches for different cranks. I didn't have a beefy press to get it out so I chucked the clutch up in my mill and bored it out. A word of caution, the insert is case hardened, so I pretty much trashed a 1" drill bit to get the job done. If space allows, you could put a flanged collar on the crank and drill and tap 4 holes in the back of the clutch and the flange and mount it that way. Four 1/4 " or 5/16" cap screws should hold it. Just a thought.
