working on a fe 290d 1 cylinder engine in a club car the problem is that as the cart idles down and comes to a stop the engine wants to continue to run and sometimes backfires. does this sound like a carb. adjustment problem, valves or timing. i remember that in years past we blamed this on the quality of gas even though it probably had nothing to do with it. i never worked on 1 of these 1 cylinder engines before so i am at a loss i've always worked on 2 cylinders.
check to make sure the throttle butterfly is completely closed when the engine is stopped, then make sure the starter engages before the throttle starts to open.
