constant power

with the key off i have constant power...... when i move the position swith(forward/reverse) to the forward postion i get sparks at the lever... where would the direct short possibly be.??

What year is the cart? It could be a stuck solenoid.

i forgot to give specifics..... its a 1987 36v. electric .....i took all the parts off and cleaned them checked the wiring and still found no worn spots for a short... cant figure it out.... if i put the position switch in forward or reverse the battery compartment gets hot and i can smell hot wires as if they are burning......

can it be repaired or buy a new one..??????????????

You'll need a new one if that's the problem. Make sure you get a solenoid made for a golf cart.

i removed the two center batteries and looked close at the solenoid and realized that it had been cracked by the batteries when hauling it to a tournament....friend of mine drives like mario andretti.. went over an overpass a bit fast and the batteries were dislodged...... replace the solenoid and it runs like a charm.... slower than cold molasses, but it gets me where im going... thanks a million for your help......
