Club Car Precedent Battery Charger Problem

I have an 2008 Club Car Precedent golf cart that will charge most the time just fine but I'm having a problem with the battery charger. The battery charger comes on within 5-10 seconds, and then the next time you plug it in and nothing. But hours later you go outside and its charging. This has happened multiple times this evening. I plugged in the battery charger and nothing but the golf cart will probably be charging in morning when i go out. I know the charger is good. Is there any suggestions or ideas for me before it in to the golf cart repair shop ? Thank you very much

PS the charger does not even click when it does this.

My pack volts are low 23.5 with above info and the pack voltage does this sound like I have a bad OBC? The batteries were put through a discharge test 2 months ago and I was told they were good. When i get the volts up to 36 charging individually I will put a good charge with the power wise charger. I have 4 12 volt batteries, what should my total pack voltage and individual battery volts be? Thank you Adam

If your battery charger is working right and if you have a true 23 or 24 volts theres no way the charger should come on, a 48 volt cart the charger has to read approx 38 volts before charger comes on as it has a low voltage sensor in it. Each one of your 12 volt batteries if good and fully charged should read over 12 1/2 volts so something is going on? Is it the OBC? Don't know but that is what controls charging.

I ran accross this on a 2007 Club Car Precedent, took a while to find it. When your battery charger will not come on check the voltage on the front battery drivers side. For some reason the positive post on that battery will open inside. I don't know why maybe temp. or vibrations. After a while it has connection again. A battery specialist told me about it. Club Car has switch manufactures because ot it. It seems to always be the front drivers side battery. I have only seen this 2 times and the second time the cart just quits and if you turn key of and on again it runs. Took awhile to find that one too.

Yes it needs 36 volts for the charger relay to activate, there is no low voltage sensor per' se'. Next time this happens find the grey wire from center of charge receptacle follow it to OBC unplug it from OBC and touch it to -48 volts of the battery pack if charger comes on then its in the OBC circuit and further testing is needed.

My charger has not come on this time. I am charging one at a time in attempts to get the 36 volts required to kick on.Thanks

right now just keep an eye on things, leave charger on until it shuts off by itself and just drive your cart......when you charge cart its very important you always leave charger on until its done which could take up to 16 hours.....charger will shut off at 16 hours wether batteries are charged or not..........keep water levels up in batteries ( distilled water only ) to approx 1/8 inch above plates and keep cable ends clean and tight but other than that unless it justs go bad theres no real way to tell.

If your batteries are getting below 36 volts Ill bet there shot by now, just why would you let them get so low is the cart in storage or are you using it that low.

I charged them up till cut off, rode it 10-15 min then parked for two days not being plugged in and thats what i got. The batteries were tested and drawn all the way down by the company that built the cart 2 1/2 months ago and showed to be in good shape. I will wait till 12 hrs after charge and get the pack volts and individual volts as well.

keep us up to date, tomorrow! if things don't look real good one of us will help you do a load test on the batteries. and watch the charger every hour or so today, make a mental note of the charge current per hour and about when it shuts down, these are tests for the OBC, and gets you familiar with your cart.

Ok I realize I need to wait 12 hrs for accurate reading but one hour after charger shutting off this is the battery voltage 13.6-next-13.1-next 13.2 last 12.6 but doing a pack volts show 38.7 how is this possible? Thanks Adam
