Club Car Popping Going Down Hills

I HAVE A 1996 CLUB CAR DS GAS MODEL GOLF CART LOOKING TO FIND OUT WHY IT IS STARTED POPPING WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS? DOES NOT DO IT ANYWHERE EXCEPT GOING DOWN HILLS. SOMEONE SAID WATER IN THE GAS OR TUNEUP I AM ASKING THE EXPERTS ON THIS ISSUE PLEASE HELP THANKS JOHN....

Has the governor been adjusted? Have you adjusted the valves lately? If that's not the problem I would check the throttle cable adjustment. If the butterfly in the carburetor stays open when you let of the gas it will cause the golf cart to backfire.

no the governor has not been touched also the valves have not been touched either

There is a little screw with a spring under it that will hold the carb open some. Need to unscrew it a little till the carb completely closes. If it won't close then you need to adjust the cable in the black box and put some slack in it till it closes. Gas is getting in the cylinder while coasting and when the coil kicks in BANG!
