Club Car Jerking Battery Light Blinking

Can anybody give me some advice?

I have a 1996 Club Car 48v non-regen.

I have replaced the solenoid, batteries, On Board Computer OBC, and taken out the motor and check brushes.

This is what it does, when I press the pedal down full it start jerking and the battery light starts blinking and it will not go. If I press the pedal down slowly it will go but never up to full speed so climbing a hill is almost impossible. The solenoid clicks every time.

It did this before I replaced all these item's! Don't much hair left to pull out of my head!

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a bad connection or battery. I've also heard a bad OBC can cause it. You could try by passing the OBC to test it and see if the problem goes away.

To jump / bypass the On Board Computer (OBC):

On the solenoid their's a 16 gage yellow wire connected to one of the small posts. Run a jumper wire from there to the negative post on battery #6. When you do this the charger will no longer turn itself off when the batteries are fully charged.

the problem could also be in the multi step........take the cover off see what the contacts and wiper arm look like......they get worn so bad that they,ll start causing that jerking because they start missing contacts as you go across them to fast spo you slow down pressing the pedal and it gives it just enough to make a contact..........if OBC is done and your sure the batteries are good and charged i would at least look at the multi step.

Is the multi step next to the pedal?

If it is, it looks like I will have to remove the whole assembly to the pedal to get to it.

no its on the frame rail where #5 battery is its a black box that is almost pie shaped.......possible you don,t have on so if theres nothing mounted there......but if you have it take the #5 battery out it makes it much easier to open up and look inside.............you,ll know if you open it and the conrtacts are black or worn uneven or little lumps like a drop of solder.........also the plastic wiper artm with the moveable contact.........check them good.

I went up this weekend to check the cart out!

I went thru each battery every battery check 8.5 volts except for
#1 ( were the solenoid wire is connected to ) it was at 5.3 volts.

I charged it over night and it shut off ok.Rechecked all batteries again and this time they were all 8.6 volts.Seem to act ok but still feels like it doesn't have much power.

This is a stock cart.what is the next step for more power to go up hills better and not spending big $$$$ other than gas which probably what I should have got in the first place.

Next time you charge the cart ride it for an hour or so and do a voltage test on the batteries again. The one that was low may be bad.

you can also while your driving take your volt meter and tape a probe to a pos terminal, and the other to a neg. terminal......than drive cart and watch your meter you,ll get to see how its dropping under different loads like slight incline vs. hill or long straight away...........this way you don,t need to have anyone with you just make sureyou put the leads where your not gonna pinch them as your driving................gives you real time voltage readings and load tests......................don,t tell anyone or give away my little secret..........................lol.

I will try the volt meter next weekend.

Is there a level in which it should not drop under when going up hills?

Went back to campground this weekend.
Cart drove around pretty good but I check all the batteries and they all check 8.3 except one battery it was 4.7.I had just bought these batteries in Sept of "06" so I'm hoping I will be able to exchange some how should be some type of proration on them "Exide".

Even after charging all night it was at 5.1 and they have water in them.

All body know if this would make the cart go slower?

Switch battery out this weekend and drove great!!!!
Still wish it could go a little faster up the hills but for now it works.

Maybe some day I'll have more cash to throw into it.

Thanks for the advice from all who replied!
