Charging

I have a 48 volt club car. With the charger on 1 battery reads 8.5 volts, 3 batteries reat 8.6 volts, 1 battery reads 10.7 volts, and 1 battery reads 10.3 volts. Total voltage read 55.3 volts. Does it appear that all of the batteries are weak/bad? The cart jerks when you press the gas. It only moves at a very slow speed without being jerky. any suggestions?

The 4 batteries that are below 9.3v are due for change. The 10.7v and 10.3v readings are ok.If replacing only 4 the replacements should be of similar age and condition as the 2 you retain.
The normal on charge voltage of a fully charged set is between 56 - 63v or between 9.3 - 10.5v per battery (depending on the age of the batteries) and all batteries should be within 0.7v of each other.

If I put new batteries and sometimes go 1 or 2 months without using cart, should I leave charger on all the time or plug it in every couple of weeks?

Sorry I think I replied to my own post. If I buy all new batteries and go sometimes 1 or 2 months without using the cart should I leave charger on all the time or plug it in once every couple of weeks ?? (48 volt club car.)

It's best to charge them once a month and unplug the charger after the cycle is complete, if the cart isn't being used. What years is the cart and what model charger do you have?
