Charging Problem

I have a 2002 EZGO with new batteries and when the level indicator get below 50% I can plug it in and some time it will charge and some time it won't, the charger will kick on and the amp meter indicates 30-50 amp draw but after the charger shuts off after a few hour of charging the indicator light is still at 50% and it's obvious that the batteries didn't take the charge. anyone got any suggestions?

What kind of indicator do you have?
If it's an LED type, the Curtis ones are good, the Chinese ones will leave your batteries too low to charge at 40%.
