Charging new Batteries

I just replaced the batteries in my '94 EZGO. I then played nine holes to test out the batteries etc. The next morning I decided I should charge the batteries. I plugged my changer in and eveything seemed fine. When the changer started the meter went up to about 20 amps. About 8 hours later the changer was still going and the meter dropped to about 10 amps. I thought this seemed normal so I let it continue charging for about 4 more hours and checked again. There was no change on the meter. It was still charing at 10 amps. I thought this was to lengthy so I turned it off so I didn't fry my new batteries.

Does this seem normal?

And what is a normal length of time for the charger to run?

Could there be another problem?

First of all you should have put new batterys on charger BEFORE you used it for the first time. This is best to help break a battery set in correctly, unhooking charger before its done is wrong. Allow charger to complete its cycle before using cart again. The long charging is common and unless it went on for days should be alright?
The batterys should be charged after EACH USAGE to keep pack up to max voltage through break in period, which can be up to 10-15 charges for full power.

I guess I deserve three lashes on the backside. I just thought 12 hours of charging was to long and I didn't want to run the risk of over charging and burning up $115.00+.

Common mistake. My question is did you replace with NEW batteries or USED batteries? If new, that is an awsome price, even for used batteries thats a great price for all six. If they are used batteries, one or some of the batteries may not be as strong as the others. This may be why the charger is working harder

They are new @ $115 each $758 total. That's wh I didn't want totake a chance on letting the charger run to long. I thought 12 hours was excessive.

O.....in that case I would put the batteries on charge and let them charge untill the charger shuts off. They probably were'nt completly charged when you got them. If you let them charge untill the charger shuts off you should be back where you need them. Like DWscott said it will take a few complete charge cycles to get the batteries up to 100%. After each use put the cart on charge.
