Charging Issues

I have manually charge each of the batteries so that the cart runs. When I plug in the cart charger, it won't register and won't charge the cart. I have cleaned all terminals, cables and battery maintenance just before the last charge. The batteries were drained really good as I was playing 27 holes and did not complete 14 before I lost power. I assume, that as I was charging the cart overnight, the charger never activated. I plugged the cart in at the golf coourse using another ez go charger and my cart did not charge, but when I used that same charger on another cart, it started charging the other cart. To get my batteries charged I used the 12V charger that I use for my trolling motor, but I charge two golf cart batteries at at time in a series of 2.

Welcome to the forum.

What year is your cart and what model is the charger? Have you cleaned the contacts on the carts charger receptacle?

I am not sure of the year of the cart, how could I find that out. I have the PowerWise brand charger. I have not cleaned the receptacles for the charger on the cart. Would I do that the same way as the cables, with a wire brush? I also notice moisture on the top of the first two batteries, should I wet them with water and clean them with baking soda?

Look in the passenger glove box for a tag and post the manufactures code. If there's no tag there look under the seat near the back side of the batteries drivers side and it may have a sticker there with the man. code depending on the year of the cart.

If you look at the DC plug on the charger you'll see a little silver contact on one side that needs to make a good connection with the outside of the uncovered terminal on the receptacle on the cart. Take a emery board or a piece of sandpaper an clean the outside of that terminal where the silver contact in the charger plus would contact it and try the charger.

Thanks. The model code was M199 and the other number was 1234328. Is there a fuse somewhere between where you plug the charger into the cart abd the batteries? I have tried a different charger with my cart but it did not work.

Ok your cart is a 1999. If the contact I'm telling you to clean is dirty no charger will work. I'm not saying that's your problem but if you have 28+ volts total voltage I'd clean that contact first.

Another option is, if you are manually charging the batt. but not bringing them up high enough, the charger wont kick on. the pack has to have a certain voltage to get the charger to kick on.
hotrod, is 28+ volts the magic #?
If you get them up to 28 volts they must stay there long enough to get the cart charger pluged in.
Just a thought.

Follow the two wires that run from the back of your charger plug over to the batteries. You will have a white going to the + terminal and a black going to the - These cables often become corroded or broken off and because they still allow the car to run, they can go un-noticed. Some of the cars will also have a 50 amp fuse on the + side of the charger, that could also cause it not to charge. Cleaning the charge plug is also very important, emory cloth work best, you will want to take thinks apart to clean them. If you do, you MUST remove the black and white wires BEFORE cleaning them. Bad things can happen if you do not.

thanks everyone for the suggestions. the batteries have a charge of around 34 and the charger still wont turn on. if the two ends on the charger are say males, then the two on the cart would be females. i have tried emery board as one person suggested on the males and nothing seemed to happen. i will now try the females with the emery cloth and see how that works out. i am not sure if my cart has fuses, but will look for them first as an option before i go looking into the wires. but again, all suggestions have been very helpful.

Did you clean the outside part of the terminal on the cart that the little metal tab in the charger plug needs to make contact with? That's what I was talking about cleaning. If that contact doesn't have a good connection the charger won't turn on.
