Charger not coming on

I have a 95 or 97( i believe), TXT 500. Went to place it back on charge the other day and the charger wouldn't come on. Checked voltage on batteries, around 6.05 at least on each battery. Not sure why charger all of a sudden just stopped working. Could there be something I am missing or need to check?

Thanks,
Britt

Britt,

You may need to give your batteries a bump-charge with an automotive charger to get the voltages higher so the charger will kick on. 6.05v is considered discharged for a 6v battery. If you don't know how to do this just holler and we can walk you through it.

Welcome to the forum...

6.05 volts per battery is enough to turn the charger on. Make sure the outlet is working where the charger is plugged in. Does the charger click when you plug it into the cart? Try wiggling the plug in the charger receptacle.

Take a voltage reading at the charger receptacle on the cart. If your batteries are all reading 6+ volts you should have 36+ volts there. Any chance you can try the charger on another cart? Which charger do you have?

I have a power wise charger. 36.02 volts at the charger receptacle. Can't try on other carts around here. Everyone around here has the PDS carts. I took cover off charger, all wires seem intact. inside. Not sure why charger is not even clicking when connected to cart. I will try and ohm out the wires in the charger cable later.

Thanks,

Britt

96 and up 36 volt EZGOs all use the same charger and plug. A PDS charger and a fleet charger are the same...

My plug for my TXT and my PDS are different. Not sure why? I have a 2006 PDS and I believe my TXT is a 97. It maybe a 95 though. I ohmed out as much as I could, and everything looks good on the cable from the charger to the cart. I even ohmed some of the wires in the charger and everything looked good. Not sure what to do now other than take it to the shop.

Ok if you sure all connections on the charger plug and cart receptacle are good you can try jumping the relay inside the charger. And test the 50 amp fuse inside the charger also. If the charger works with the jumper you need to replace the board the relay is on, about $100.00 from EZGO. Here's a pic of the two wires you need to jump. MAKE SURE CHARGER IS NOT PLUGGED IN WHILE TESTING THE FUSE AND CONNECTING THE JUMPER

Ohmed out my 50 amp fuse and it didn't ohm out, so this should be my problem. Now, where in the world can I get a fuse like that? On Sunday? Does it have to be like that or can I place a different style 50 amp fuse?

Thanks,

Britt

Replaced fuse with another 50 amp, similar, not exact, style. Plugged charger in outlet, then plugged charger to cart and New 50 amp fuse blew immediately. Guess it's time to take it to the shop. Can I take just the charger to the shop or will that cart have to go also?

Thanks.

Just got my charger back from the doctor. New fuse and new diodes. They put heavier duty diodes in, they told me?? Oh, and they fixed it while I waited. Cost... nothing. I have sent them so much business for cart sales that they didn't charge me anything. What a deal. That's why I do business with them.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

The charger seemed hotter than normal and smelled hot. Is this normal with the new componant I had replaced. (diode) It charged fully and shut off without burning my shop down. Just curious. They told me the diode was a heavier duty one, what ever that means.
Thanks,

Britt

I'd keep a eye on the charger for the next few charges. I've seen them get warm before but not hot enough the smell.
