Charge Indicator Gauge

I posted this on another sight, and did not get any help. Hoping someone here can help. I installed a "lighted" charge gauge on my 2004 Ezgo Fleet 36 volt cart. Installed per instructions, positive to #1 battery negative to last battery. That went fine gauge is working. The lighted part is the problem. Instructions say, (for the light), one wire to one side of key switch, other wire to other post on key switch. The light comes on, but only when the accelerator is depressed!!!! I would like for the light to work off the key switch, but not just on when pedal is depressed. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

you could try reversing the wires. if that doesn't work, you simply need to find a wire that is "hot" with the key on.

Please believe me, I have switched wires every way possible, and the light will only come on when the pedal is depressed!! I had some hair when I started working on this thing, now I am totally bald!!! Thank you for the input.

Not quite true. You didn't get a SOLUTION, but you did get HELP. There is a BIG difference.

Where did you get this gauge? Can you provide a link? How about a picture?

Also, tell us about your cart. Any mods? Is the stock wiring harness intact?

I bought the gauge from ProCart Gauges. It is a standard indicator gauge, positive and negative posts, and two wires from the bulb. I have a 2004 Ezgo, 36 volt Fleet series. Completely stock, except for headlights and taillights. Stock wiring harness intact.

Well HRC, No luck wiring to light switch. Tried it 2 o3 differnt ways, but no go. I can put the wires to 1st positive post and last negative post and it works, but it stays on all the time.
Question, if I wired a toggle switch to positive and negative battery posts and wired light to toggle switch, that would enable me to turn light off/on wouldn't it??? Just a brain fart. I appreciate your opinion on this. Thank you again,

Not quite as you described. Run a wire from the main pack positive to one terminal of the switch. Run a wire from the other terminal of the switch to one terminal of the light. Now run a wire from the other terminal of the light to the main pack negative.

Switch on, light on.

WOOOOHOOOO!!!

I knew we would get it! I still can't explain why it won't work off the keyswitch, but I'm not there, eyes-on.

Glad you got what you needed!

The keyswitch thing is driving me nuts! Let's try this:

Remove the wire that runs from the new switch to the light from the switch terminal, leaving the other end connected to the light. The loose wire is now considered your Hot lead. Jumper this wire to the switched side of your keyswitch and try it out.

I will give it a try tomorrow and report back to you. I hate to mess with it, since it is working how I wanted it to. But since you are the "Professor", I will indertake the task!!
