Cart shutting down while running

I have a 2001 EZGo 36 volt electric cart. While running the cart looses all power, comes to a stop, and makes the beeping sound like when you put it into reverse. Sometimes if you take your foot off the peddle when it first looses power you can push it back down and it will start going again. Other times you have to turn the switch off and turn it back on before it will power up. Any suggestions on solving the problem?

Thanks,

It sounds like the solenoid may be dropping out. Is your cart a PDS cart? If so put it in diagnostic mode and drive it until it gives you a code. Code definitions should be on the controller cover, if not they're in the resource forum here.

I have this problem with my cart too.I was told it might be a worn speed sensor cable.Anyone else no anything about this?

Normally on the PDS carts with this problem its the solenoid dropping out or a loose connection at the solenoid. When the speed sensor or harness is bad the cart will usually go into limp mode and lose it's top end speed. Have you put the cart in diagnostic mode and see if you get any codes? Try diagnostic mode and let us know what code you get...

If you want to check the speed sensor remove the snap ring on the end of the motor, slide the speed sensor out and make sure the magnet under the speed sensor is firmly attached with your finger (don't pry it). Also check the harness connections at the speed sensor and the controller.

OK, I was able to lift the cart's back wheels off the ground and started the diagnostic mode. I clearly got 4 beeps to start and the 2nd beep was three beeps. I think the code for this is the solenoid "droping out" because I checked all the connections to it and there were no loose connections. I ordered a new solenoid from Buggies unlimited and hop to install it Saturday/Sunday. I really appreciate all the help I recieved here.

My cart is runnining. I took it out the other day after replacing the solenoid. I road around for 5 holes [30 F that day] and had no problems at all. With the $ I saved doing the repair myself, I bought a new golf bag. Thanks so much.
