My 1998 Club Car DS was stopping poorly so I installed new shoes. I didn't help. I can't lock up the wheels , even on dirt. It takes 15 - 20 feet to stop from only 15-20 mph. Any suggstions?

just for reference did you adjust the shoes so that they just would scrub on the hubs when you replaced them also did you adjust the brake cables to both wheels under the cart right beneath your feet. check the springs on the brake pedal and on the cables.

When you replaced the brake shoes did you FIRST UNHOOK CABLES FROM BACKING PLATES and THEN back off the brake adjuster near the top of backing plate under a rubber cover. After replacing shoes did you adjust FIRST the brake shoes against drums and THEN adjust the cables to be just free from pulling brake shoes out.
It will take some time for shoes to wear in and give full brake action, unless you have had the drums trued before replacing shoes.
Remember that these are NOT HYDRAULICS and dont work anywhere near as well? Its like the early pre 1930s autos that had cable or rod controled brakes. GOOD OLD DRAG YOUR FEET TYPE BRAKES.

Brakes are self adjusting so I don't think there is any scrub adjustment possible. I did not touch the cables so I will check that out today. Thanks.

most are self adjusting but you can adjust the shoes in or out before you place the hub back on. i don't have a lot of confidence in the self adjusters but you are suppose to be able to drive in reverse and stop abrumptly 3 or 4 times to self adjust.you may already know this anyway
