Brake Pedal Pressure

I have I thinkl a 84 EZ GO............am I right in thinking it has cable type brakes???

if so........ can I expect a firm brake pedal when applying??

it seems to start to stop about 1/2 pedal but then takes a really hard push to stop quickly....on gravel the only wheel to skid is the passenger side??

where to start??

if needed where will I find those brake parts??

pull the hub off the driver side check the pads check parts for rust if pads are good and parts not rusted check to make sure cable is applying pressure to pads if everything checks out you can adjust the the brakes there is an adjuster that narrows or widens the pads just like drum brakes on a car
