Beast motor or D&D Torque?

Hey guys, I'm planning to build some sweet hunting buggies from EzGo carts soon, and I'll be going with 500 amp Alltrax programmable controllers, high amp solenoids, 4 ga cables, a heavy F/R switch if it's not a PDS cart, and a high torque motor from D&D motors or the GE Beast. Does anyone have any idea which is better? I have heard from the people at Beast 48 that the D&D torque motors gave them a lot of problems so they started using the GE beast, and have had no issues since.... :dazed: Talked with the guys at D&D, and they were pretty demeaning toward the GE and implied that they're motor produced more torque, though he kept dodging my question of how much power their motor produced; that led me to believe that the D&D motor doesn't produce as much hp, but it may still be better or have more torque. I don't know. Any experiences with these products? Thanks a LOT!:hattip:

D&D builds a badazz torque motor. They build very reliable motors across the board.
If I wunt grunt, I use D&D. We use the beast for speed in the drag karts. The beast is good, but I think the D&D is better for torque. :hattip::twocents:

Thanks, Dirtysouth! That's the kind of opinion I'm looking for- someone who has experience with both. I'm leaning toward the D&D, even before your post, but that post really helped me! :hattip:

Big torque motors and 500 amp controllers should use 2ga cables. It's a cheap upgrade from 4ga and you wont suffer from any power issues.

Ok- good suggestion! I wasn't sure at what point the 4 gauge become insufficient. :hattip:
I just drove a Bad Boy Buggy, and I wasn't all that impressed. I mean, the 4wd is nice, but I am sure a 2wd cart fixed up like we're talking about and a winch on front will get you where you need to go. The bad boy buggy seemed like it was built kinda cheap. Everything on it, including switches, floor mat, etc looked cheap. What do you guys think?

Other than that, they're nice... :rotflmao:
Chinese built. Word on the block is that Ezgo just bought badboy out.

The controller manufacturers recommend increasing cable size over 4ga as soon as the controller is bigger than 400 amps.

Bad Boy Buggies are just another Chinese, EZ-GO knock off type cart with extra stuff on it.

I am definitely considering putting 4wd on some of the hunting buggies I'm wanting to build. That's why I have been scoping out the Bad Boy Buggy and the Ruff and Tuff electric vehicles. I've wondered if you could order just the front axle assembly from the Bad Boy Buggy and build your own.... I am a full time mechanic on natural gas compressors up to 4000 hp, so I can fix almost anything. (Still learning on golf carts) But I'm not a fabricator, so welding/ cutting is not my strong suit. Therefore, I'm sorta looking for something I can kinda bolt up with little metal work involved. I do have a small wire feed welder, but never get serious with it. I looked at those 4x4 kits, but my only concern is with the price, can a person make any money off of adding the 4wd? Would people be willing to pay THAT much extra for 4wd? I guess the answer is yes for lots of people because the Bad Boy Buggy sells for $10K- $12K?!?!?!

Also, I'm still hearing from some guys on BGW that they have had problems with bearings in D&D motors? I have heard this a few different times, and it's my only concern.... How many have you guys had, and what percentage of them had issues? Do they stand behind them if you have an issue? Thanks!

D&D stands behind their products. I have never heard of anyone having any trouble with bearings.

Ok, well I'll give them a try. I honestly trust you guys a lot more than anyone else I have seen on other forums. Y'all just don't seem to have any agenda outside of helping other "cartaholics" out. I like that. I'll be giving D&D a chance. Thanks, guys!
It may be a couple of weeks on the build, but I'll be keeping you all informed- maybe even post a pic or two. :hattip:

i was curious if you ever followed through on your build, and if you in fact went with the D&D motor? I just bought a D&D and I wanted to know if it met your expectations? can u show any pics?
Thanks!
