Battery Terminal Connections Red Substance

When I was looking into buying the golf cart and lifted the seat I noticed the battery terminal connections had a red substance on them. At first I thought someone had spray painted the connections, but it appears to be petroleum based. I've used terminal gel before but I've never seen this color of red. Has anyone else seen this and should I leave it or remove it ?

It's a protective coating to slow down corrosion. I just got new batteries and they sprayed all my terminals with the same stuff.
