battery life

Ive got a 96 ezgo 36 volt. Ive just replaced all my batteries with ones from Rural King, they are made by Exide. I replaced the cables and upgraded to 4 gauge. My cart dosent seem to run very long on a charge. The kids can run around the yard for about 2 or 3 hours then it is dead. This is my first cart so I dont really know what to expect out of it. Nothing seems to get hot or anything, Ive felt all of the cables after a long run. I have ordered a load tester so I can test each battery. How far should I be able to go on a full charge on level groung?

Welcome to the forum.

You may notice a little more run time after 10 or so charge cycles. Don't run the batteries down real low between charges, especially when they're brand new. Like Qwik said 2 to 3 hours of actual run time is about all you'll get out of it.

All above are correct, envision driving your car on the starter motor for 2 or 3 hours.

Thanks for the information. I was hoping for a little more run time. Maybe I will keep an eye open for a gas cart.

Okay I got my load tester yesterday. I charged the cart over night. I load tested each battery and they passed but had low voltage, 6.1 to 6.2 volts. I tested the total battery pack voltage and found 36.8 volts. Im thinking that is too low. The charger shut off. I dont think my charger is giving me a full charge. Am I on the right track?

The voltage readings were not under a load. It was after a all night charge and a couple of hour rest. What is the voltage of the total battery pack supposed to be when its fully charged? Mine is 36.8 volts. Thanks for the help guys, Im not trying to beat a dead horse, I just want to get all of run time I can out of it.

38.2v is fully charged, you may have a battery problem. Time to get out the hydrometer and check all the cells for a bad one.
Here's a chart to help determine your battery condition:

I thought my voltage was too low. Im going to check the specific graviety tomorrow. Thanks for the chart. Im also going to try using my buddies charger and see if the voltage goes up. Is there any adjustment to make the charger stay on longer

Ok I tested the batteries with a hydrometer after my charger ran a full cycle. The results indicated that my batteries were only 50-70% charged. My total pack voltage was 36.8 volts. I got another charger from my friend and charged all night now my voltage is 39.9 volts. So now Ive got my problem narrowed down to the charger or the cables from my battery that go to the plug on the cart. Thanks for all of the help.
