Cartaholic - R.I.P.
This past weekend,a neighbor was having cart trouble. After charging the cart overnight, it wouldn't move, only jerk. We pushed the cart over to the open air garage and proceeded to diagnose the problem. We removed the seat and I jumped to the conclusion it was a terminal corrosion problem, most of the terminals were completely covered with corrosion. We cleaned or replaced all the cables and thought we had it. With the seat off, I turned on the switch and pressed the accelerator pedal. I've NEVER seen or heard anything comparable to a lead acid battery explosion. It blew the top off the battery, spraying anything in a 10 ft radius with acid.
When I regained my composure, I headed to the nearest water faucet, the neighbor also headed to an out door shower across the street. After about a 15 minute flushing we dried off and started to survey the damage. The top of the 3rd battery in front was completely gone, the terminals were hanging by the battery cables, and the side case was split down the corner. I've been trained an battery safety on the job,the protective gear, etc, but never really took it seriously. After this I'm going to approach the batteries more cautiously..........By the way, after replacing the BAD battery, the cart would run, but the burgundy metallic paint job was ruined...
