We just bought a 1996 Club Car and we do not know how to tell if the batteries are charging or how long to keep it on the charger. We do not have the manual that would explain this so any help would be great. Thanks

Welcome to the forum...

If it's the original charger and everything is working properly it will shut off automatically when the battery charging is completed. Post the make and model of the charger and we can tell you for sure.

your charger should have a gage on the front with a needle when you plug it in the needle goes up for 10 seconds than drops to zero than back up to 15 to 20 amps and slowly works back to zero when it will shut off......................if it a 48 volt cart try your charger on another cart if you can and if your charger works on another cart then you have a cart problem not a charger problem and that year it wouldn,t be out of the question to have a bad OBC but 1st try and eliminate charger by using on another cart.........you have a 48 volt cart 1996 what color is dash light? red or orange? if red i,ll bet your OBC went bad.........................................

thanks for your help, we just wanted to know if the charger would shut off by itself when it is finished charging and we found out that is the case.

A normal charge cycle will take about 6-8 hours but that depends on state of discharge of the batteries. Some batteries can take 10-12 hours to charge if they are very low.
