battery/battery charger

Recently I was given a 1997 Yamaha golf cart (electric) and I was told it needed new batteries. Well, initially it would charge but not hold it very long. I washed the batteries and the underside of the seat and now the charger will not kick on at all. I am a mechanical idiot, so any help is welcomed and appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

How long ago did you wash the batteries?
It's possible that something is wet and it may be fine after it dries out.
Also check all the battery cable connections and the connections on the wires coming from the charger receptacle to the batteries.

Thanks. It has only been a couple of days, I will give it a few more and check the wiring while I wait it out.

Thanks again.

OK, it has been about two weeks. I allowed the cart time to dry out, and it will not charge. Any suggestions on what to try now?

I'm not real familiar with Yamaha electric carts but I'd check the connections at the charger receptacle on the cart and the plug on the charger. Try plugging the charger into another outlet. Check the charger wire connections at the batteries. If possible try another charger or try your charger on another cart.
