I have a set of batteries that seem to have taken a charge, they will hold a 3 min load test however they are no showing any gravity? sugestions please.

Even a bad battery will hold a little charge. 3 minutes is not much. Charge them and get a reading of the battery while you ride it. if they ant showing no Gravity then they are toast, done!

Yes you can add acid, will it help I doubt it! I have never seen a battery that can be brought back to life. Sorry I would just bite the bullet and get a new set.

The water added to a battery is only to replace water that has been boiled off during charging etc.
Leaving the battery open in the rain won't hurt it, just tops off the level. I would draw off some of the top until it is down to just above the plates.

You can only do an SG test after the battery has been charged. Did you charge it first before checking the SG?
If they hold a 3 min load test they must have some SG.

Are you sure your hydrometer is working?

What is the voltage of the battery after charging and resting for an hour?

You checked it and it works on a new battery and still not on these in question, your wasting time. I would get new ones.

You can only do a specific gravity test after the battery has been charged.
Charging mixes the water added on the top with the rest of the electrolyte and restores it to 1.27 SG.

I understand that, but by what he says I would assume they were charged before.

Glad to see it's working out. Keep us in the loop on the paint job. To post pics, they need to hosted on the web. Places like photobucket and picasa do it for free.
